Steven Cruz, M.A., Founder & President
Steven Cruz, M.A brings to Omega Educational Consulting, Inc more than fifteen years of professional experience in educational counseling, program development and student affairs. Steven is expert in providing admissions, housing and personal assistance to visiting international students, ensuring successful acculturation and adjustment to life in the United States.
With a Masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University in Student Personnel Administration, Steven joined New York University in 1993 as Assistant Director of the Office for African American, Latino and Asian American Student Services. His previous work as a program coordinator/ graduate assistant in the Office of Student Activities at Columbia University, amply prepared him for that highly visible administrative role at N.Y.U.
Besides managing a university-wide program providing comprehensive financial planning, counseling and leadership services for a diverse student body, Steven also created programs to recruit, advise and mentor international students while their stay at N.Y.U. His services also included subsequent career-placement and graduate school advisement. An accomplished speaker, program developer, communicator and facilitator, he was able to forge a strategic alliance between New York University and the United States International University in Mexico City, where he led groups of exchange students to study international relations and immerse themselves in Mexican culture.
Prior to his work in higher education, Steven worked for a non-profit organization that identifies and mentors intellectually gifted public school students for placement in the New York area’s most prestigious independent day and boarding schools.
Extensively traveled, Steven took a year abroad studying Spanish at the University of Seville in Spain and has lived in several countries throughout Latin America. While in Europe, he became proficient in Italian. Steven has been a featured keynote speaker at N.Y.U., Columbia University, and the Juilliard School of the Arts as well as other numerous conferences dealing with student issues
As founder and president of Omega Educational Consulting, Inc. Mr. Cruz has presented several workshops on “How to enroll in an American University” in Mexico City (Mexico), Cali (Colombia), Belo Horizonte (Brazil), San Juan (Puerto Rico) and Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic).
A native New Yorker, Mr. Cruz is fluent in both English and Spanish and has studied and worked extensively in the United States, Latin America and Europe. Back to the Top
Eric Bronson, Ph.D., Vice President for Academics
Eric Bronson joined Omega Educational Consulting, Inc, as Executive Vice President of Academics after numerous successful appointments in the academic world. After earning his Ph.D. in philosophy in less than four years at the State University of New York at Buffalo, he taught Philosophy and American History in New York City.
Dr Bronson is an expert in the field of American culture studies, reaching out to high school and college students. In 1998 he co-produced and edited the award winning film, My Lazy Friend, a film that documents the obstacles to achieving dreams in the United States. The film played in festivals around the world, including Bangkok, Thailand, and at home, won best Documentary in New York and California.
Dr. Bronson is also a regular contributor to Open Court Press’s Philosophy and popular Culture series, writing chapters in “Seinfeld and Philosophy”(2000), and “The Simpson’s and Philosophy” (2003) and “Baseball and Philosophy”(2004). He has been quoted at length in the New York Times and People Magazine.
Many international students have gained their first glimpse of American college life through Dr. Bronson’s classes. In the fall semester of 2001, he taught American Culture as a Visiting Professor at Altai State University in Barnaul, Russia.
Dr. Bronson has also studied in both St. Petersburg and Granada, Spain. He is fluent in Russian and proficient in Spanish. Back to the Top
Alexander Martinez, M.A
Director of Finance, Admin and IT
Mr. Martinez comes to Omega Educational Consulting with more than 10 years of experience in the business sector. A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Mr. Martinez obtained a degree in accounting from La Universidad Cooperativa de Colombia. Considered a numbers expert, he has designed successful business models for Omega and other companies as a consultant. Mr. Martinez has a clear vision of where he would like to position Omega Educational Consulting, Inc. in the independent educational consulting field. Alexander Obtained a degree in Computer Science from Univerdad Pontificia Javeriana, and he has special studies in Psicology and a wide range of experience in Personal Managering for US and Colombia Companies.
With a special point of view of the company because of his particular educational level he is in charge of the "get it done" administration and manage the day to day activities with new ideas and take decisions process in order to take the company to the next level. Alix Purcell, M.A.,
Associate Director
Alix Purcell, M.A., brings to Omega over 7 years of experience in marketing, public relations and advertising in both the corporate and non-profit sectors in Chicago and New York. With an extensive background in corporate, academic, and fiction writing, Alix provides Omega not only with expertise in business-to-business and business-to-consumer communications, but also a creative ability to entwine students’ stories with their academic goals and aspirations in their application essays and personal statements.
In 2011, Alix founded her own LLC, providing businesses and individuals access to the knowledge and strategy to launch or refine their marketing, public relations, and social media platforms, inspired by the question: “In every venture lies a story, what’s yours?”
Prior to starting her LLC and partnering with Omega Educational Consulting, The Life Solution Center of Darien, and Change Create Transform, Alix worked for The Child Mind Institute and SBLI USA Mutual Life Insurance Company. She held positions of increasing responsibility in Marketing and Advertising throughout her corporate career before capitalizing on this experience to branch out on her own. She helped the Child Mind Institute launch a new website and year-long advertising campaign, and ran a variety of integrated marketing campaigns for SBLI USA, helping to develop and better utilize the e-commerce and e-mail marketing channels of the business.
Alix taught literature at Columbia College in Chicago before entering the corporate world. She has an MA in literature from the University of Chicago and a BA in literature from Trinity College.
Alex Mallory,
Director of Tutoring
Alex has created a unique and time-tested approach to standardized reasoning exams, including the SAT and ACT, TOEFL, ISEE, SSAT and SHSAT. As a tutor, he specializes in SAT II Biology (E/M), AP Biology, and Living Environment Regent exams and has also extensively tutored general classroom biology and formal writing skills.
Having grown up in Manhattan and attended the Fieldston School, Alex is familiar with the special challenges confronting students in private and specialized public high schools. His background has enabled a high degree of success in mentoring students who are struggling in these uniquely stressful and competitive environments.
Alex is a scratch golfer who, in his spare time, enjoys keeping up his golf game and regularly competes in amateur tournaments in the Northeast. He is also an avid black-diamond skier and hits the slopes whenever an opportunity presents itself.
Leila Zubi, Esp., Legal Consultant
Leila Zubi, Esq. is a legal consultant and advisor with over ten years of experience working with foreign governments and local counsel on legal issues pertaining to foreign government-sponsored students studying throughout the United States. Leila prepared a 56-page guidebook on the United States legal system and American culture for a foreign government client to provide to its 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the United States. Leila works with students, parents, families, sponsoring governments, academic counselors, schools, law enforcement officials, various United States’ federal, state, and local agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, insurance companies, and local counsel, as necessary, on legal issues and emergencies, including, among other things, academic hearings, criminal arrests, immigration detentions, questioning by law enforcement officials, and commercial matters, to resolve legal issues and disputes in a timely and cost-effective manner. Leila provides extensive due diligence to help students and their sponsors select local counsel and works with local counsel to help formulate and monitor legal strategies and progress. Leila is a partner at Zubi Rosner, LLP, a multi-service law firm based in New York, where she heads the firm’s corporate and public international law practices. She is also a founder and the managing member of SAGE Academic Services, LLC, and works as an Omega legal consultant through the OMEGA/SAGE strategic alliance.
Leila is a graduate of Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law where she was the Editor-in-Chief of the Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution. She received her Master of Arts degree in Near Eastern Studies from New York University Graduate School of Arts and Science and was the recipient of the prestigious Ettinghausen Fellowship. She graduated from Fordham University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics. Leila is fluent in Turkish.
