Duncan Marshall
Senior Consultant
A native New Yorker, Duncan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Omega Educational Consulting. He has been associated with independent schools, public education, and other social service agencies in a career that has spanned more than 40 years. Most recently he was Assistant Headmaster for External Affairs at the Knox School in Saint James, New York, where he oversaw the school’s admission and advancement programs. Prior to Knox, Duncan was the Director of Advancement at Riverdale Country School and Director of Development at Saint David’s School in New York City, significantly increasing the levels of voluntary support at both institutions. Prior to returning to New York in 1997, Duncan had a long and successful tenure as Director of Admissions at Saint Louis Country Day School and its successor institution, Mary Institute and Saint Louis Country Day School (MICDS). In addition, Duncan worked with the Danforth Foundation and with many civic-minded members of the Saint Louis community to co-found City Academy, an independent inner city day school to benefit the youth of Saint Louis. He also served as the school’s first Chair of the Board of Trustees. In addition to being a leading administrator in the schools where he worked, Duncan was a member of the English and history departments, taught many Advanced Placement history and government courses as well as many challenging and interesting elective classes. Along with these duties, Duncan was involved with his students and their families as a personal advisor and college counselor. Duncan began his career in education by teaching in public schools in suburban Boston.
Duncan has been a member of the SSATB Long Range Planning Committee and Annual Meeting Planning Committee, Past President of the New York Association of Small Boarding Schools, the Metropolitan Association of Independent School Development Associates and has served on numerous school accrediting committees and consulting projects, thus serving the profession at large. Beyond the academic world, Duncan has worked for international health and educational services organizations as well as service providers for senior citizens. Duncan has traveled throughout China and Latin America, enjoys reading, music, working out to stay fit and has recently developed an interest in cooking, probably as an antidote to many years of school food!
